LexDAO April 2022 Recap
What’s New in LexDAO
Will the Real Attorneys Please Stand Up
Earlier this month, @mr0chill of Quantum Tech, posted a long page-turner thread about how his project had hired an individual who held themselves out as an attorney. This individual spoke on panels calling themselves an attorney and identified themselves as an attorney on their professional social media. It turns out, this individual probably is not an attorney, and given that they once held themselves out to be a member of LexDAO, we were forced to make a statement. While LexDAO membership is open to non-attorneys, this individual was not a LexDAO member.
This incident led to discussions about how LexDAO, and the web3 community at large, could best verify that those claiming to be attorneys actually are attorneys. We discussed where LexDAOs responsibility may stop (what would happen if someone submitted fraudulent documents to LexDAO?) and how big of a priority this issue should be for LexDAO. On one hand, the practice of law without a license is a criminal offense, and LexDAO is obviously not responsible for stopping that offense; but on the other hand, incidents like this have a real detrimental effect on the web3 community. If you have opinions or ideas, be sure to join the discussion in our Discord.
Decentralized Brooklyn Meetup
Last Tuesday, LexDAO hosted a Web3 meetup at Threes Brewing in Brooklyn! It was great to meet so many DAO members and friends IRL. Stay tuned as we organize future meetups around the world.
Study Groups
Legal nerds and newbs unite! The weekly Study Group meetings have kicked off and a huge hit. Our fearless study group leader, Andres - (StinkyPinky)#8182, has walked through important concepts for law students including Solidity 101, corporate structuring, and web3 corporate governance matters with the help of LexDAO’s Golden Lady (JupiterBlock)#2628 and her vast knowledge of Cayman entities. There’s plenty of additional information on the study group at the bottom of this newsletter if you are interested in attending!
LexDAOism
This is an official call for articles! It’s been a slow month on LexDAOism and we want to change that. Whether you’re a lawyer, law student, or just interested in the law, LexDAOism is a great platform to get your writing out. The best part about publishing with LexDAOism is the access you’ll have to Guild Member expertise and suggestions! Be sure to reach out if you have any ideas!

For members looking to earn their membership or simply learn additional skills, come join our study group every Friday at 4pm EST.
We’ll help each other learn basic coding skills (for law students or lawyers) and legal lingo for hard-core developers, as well as organize contributions to LexDAO projects where you can work to earn your membership.
We are also in the process of starting a Legal Aid Clinic for ImpactDAOs as a study group project. This is a great opportunity for attorneys and law students to get more involved in learning and contributing! Reach out to @bestape#3069 or join our study group for any questions about our clinic.
There is now a separate Discord channel for the study group! Check out our agendas for upcoming meetings and what we’re working on there.
