What’s New in LexDAO
LexDAO is digging deep on Decentralized IDs where we are exploring ways to verify lawyer credentials, ideally in a trustless manner. We are discussing these ideas with kycDAO, Gitcoin Passport, and a project of one of our own, Jared’s, In-Cred. Join us in the Discord if you are working on something similar or if you’re simply interested in the topic.
Twitter Spaces: On September 16, Mike Wawszczak, Dane Lund, and Redbeard, discussed whether tokens are securities, and had over 200 people tune in! The space was recorded, so if you missed it, or just wanted to relisted, you can do so here.
W3 Music Coalition: Our very own Kyle Smith, represented LexDAO on this panel of builders, engineers, and music industry professionals, where the future of on-chain music was discussed. Catch up on the panel here.
LexDAO Clinic (“LexClinic”): Calling out to law students interested in hands-on Web3 experience! DM bestape#3069 on discord for more information. The ⚔Clinic continues to build out its infrastructure and integrate with KaliDAO wherever Kali’s products need services support. Many more exciting developments but you’ll have to join our server to find out! All LexDAO members are welcome to join.
LexClinic is also participating in a project to bring credit scoring on-chain. Part of this project includes a panel answering the question “Could Your Next Library Card be a Visa?”
GR15 is Complete! Thanks to everyone who donated, which will help LexDAO and it’s sub projects continue to build for the future of web3. We had a 3x increase in individual contributors this round, with over 600 people contributing!
LexDAOism:
In LexClinic’s ERC Standard Taxonomy project, Dan Berger maps out the ERC Standard landscape and explores the evolution of standards in the Ethereum ecosystem.
In ‘Can’t Be Evil’ NFT license, Paola Maria Gangi examines a16z’s release of the model NFT licence, what it could mean for the industry, and a few of his thoughts on the license itself.
LexDAOs nuts & bolts are coming together with the first draft of LexDAOs internal privacy policy & T&Cs.
What We’re Listening To
The Law of Code Podcast hosted by Jacob Robinson sat down with the one and only Larry Florio in September to discuss evolving crypto law, and open source templates
Q: When you first began bringing crypto into your legal practice, I can imagine there were a lot of things that were difficult to get to yes. Is there something that comes to mind as the most challenging aspect that you think others might be going through and, and you could talk a bit about?
A: It's less of a specific instance and more just, I think the risk aversion that many of us lawyers have in general.
Is probably what drew a lot of us to the space to begin with is getting past that. Now we're working in crypto and in web3 with blockchain technology, this stuff is all early, early days. And, the areas of law that we're dealing with, weren't built for technology in a system that works the way that this works.
So you have to clutch things together a little bit, and there's not gonna be a lot of precedent. If there's any at all, that's directly analogous to the things that you're working on. You have to just become more comfortable being uncomfortable than a lawyer in a more established area.
September brought us a new crypto law podcast, this time from Gabriel Shapiro & Sarah Brennan, General Counsels at Delphi Labs and Ventures, respectively, where they discuss the day in the life of a crypto lawyer.
UAE Crypto Law is rapidly changing, for what seems like the better, and on this podcast with Eric Hess and Kokila Alagh, you can catch up on all things UAE crypto regulation.
