What’s New In LexDAO
Curia
The LexDAO ADR working group launched Curia as a subDAO of LexDAO. Curia is an on-chain dispute resolution protocol that, combined with LexLocker (escrow smart contract system), allows users to lock their funds in escrow and then proceed to arbitration. LexDAO guild members manage the arbitration, ensuring that the arbitrators are lawyers and appointing the best suited arbitrators for each case (based on technicality, complexity, etc.). After the panel issues an award, the arbitrators unlock the funds (each being one of the signers of the multi-sig) and distribute the funds according to the ruling. We’re still working on Curia, so feel free to join our discord!
Constitutional Committee
The Constitutional Coup has begun. @JungleBoy, @Tertius, & @2spencer took a deep dive into the LexDAO Constitution to raise issues that need further member discussions (quorum, dispute resolution, voting procedures, and LexDAO indemnification); to update out of date aspects of the constitution; and to defer non-essential rights and operations to procedures in the Operating System (bylaws and smart contracts deference). Now is your chance to be heard! Join the Constitutional Reboot channel in discord.
Cardano Lobby Proposal
LexDAO has submitted a proposal to Cardano's Project Catalyst’s most recent Request for Proposals. Cardano is looking to "fund specialists in regulation, lawyers, and politicians who can promote the creation of an environment of laws that are more favorable or less harmful to the crypto space, with a focus on Proof of Stake (PoS) and on Cardano's particularities." If this succeeds, LexDAO will coordinate paid crowd-sourcing activities across different countries this year. We aim to leverage existing efforts such as COALA Model DAO law to build up a repo of comparative law resources for different jurisdictions.
A few LexDAO members put together a proposal requesting continued funding of a series of hackathons initiated earlier in the year (submission to Wyoming DAO LLC legislation), leveraging the existing talent here at LexDAO to provide focused deliverables to the Cardano community. The proposal focuses on creating thought leadership (Ross on tax, Prof Verret on SEC, Dr. Lau on privacy) to guide co-regulation alongside legislative bodies, and work with interested regulators to build sustainable frameworks for crypto adoption. This past Saturday, @justinho.eth pitched the proposal at the Catalyst Swarm Idea Fest to get the word out to the community.
If you have a chance, please review the proposal and make suggestions by this Friday, as attention and comments from the community will help amplify our message.
d. Twitter Spaces (@Lex_DAO)
On Thursday March 10, LexDAO held a Twitter Spaces event covering the Biden Administration’s Executive Order on “Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Assets.” @GeoffCostello.eth led the conversation along with @Gavin, @Mike Wawszczak, and @Decentralawyer in discussing what an executive order looks like in practice, whether the order appears positive or negative for the space, and which agencies will likely assert dominance over future regulatory adoption.
On Thursday March 24, LexDAO held a Twitter Spaces event concerning NFT theft and liability. @GeoffCostello.eth led the conversation along with @gonbe, @ross, @carlo, & @Birdnals, where they discussed topics such as what rights an innocent buyer of a stolen NFT has to when that buyer should be considered to have notice that an NFT is stolen. You can listen to the recording here.
Our next Twitter Spaces will be on Thursday, April 7th at 5pm EST. Tune in biweekly at that time for your regularly scheduled dose of legal alpha!
